Noah and Fin picked two family challenges for Sixteen in 16 and the Bluebell Wood Colour Dash 5K at Rother Valley Country Park was the first of these. Noah, Fin, Gill and I were joined by Tara, Becky, Phil, Edward and Beatrice for some messy paint fun.
Once we arrived I put on my tutu to complete the #tutu challenge set for me by Gill and Tara. Thank you again who donated to make me do this. It was really useful for cleaning the lens on the Go Pro as we went round.
Over 3500 participants were taking part so was pretty busy, we walked across to the start area and found a good spot and enjoyed the atmosphere, coloured paint flying in the air and the music. Noah persuaded me to buy some paint to throw! This was promptly thrown at Gill , Finley and I and just as Tara arrived she got a face of green paint!
It was then time to start, due to the numbers we were pretty near the back, so we spent the first part of the dash weaving around people and the 9 of us split into various groups to run round.
There is a colour station every kilometre where volunteers throw the powder paint, stay in the middle if you want to stay cleaner, go near the edge if you want to get covered. The orange and green stations were really going for it! There was a guy on green, who looked like the incredible hulk, clearly releasing some of his tension throwing the paint!
We all cheered each other over the finish line, took a few photos, grabbed some grub and the waited to get out of the car park.
Thank you to Becky and Phil and family for joining us and also a big well done to Tara for jogging the whole way nearly 7 months pregnant.
Noah and Fin did brilliantly in completing this challenge. If you can support them for their first challenge text SIXT77 £3 to 70070 or visit www.justgiving.co.uk/sixteenin16
The second family challenge will be a cycle ride with the boys over the summer.
